Tree Trimming & Pruning FAQ
When is the best time to prune my trees?
For most Minnesota trees, late winter into early spring is the best time, while the tree is dormant. Dead or unsafe limbs can come off any time. A few trees like oaks and elms have specific windows to avoid disease, and our arborists follow those.
What is the difference between trimming and topping?
Good trimming follows the natural shape of the tree and protects its health. Topping, which means cutting big limbs back to stubs, does lasting damage and grows back weak and unsafe. We never top trees.
How often should trees be pruned?
It depends on the type, age, and spot, but a lot of mature shade trees do well with pruning every 3 to 5 years. We will give you an honest recommendation during your free estimate.
